Exhibits

The paintings and photographs of Gina Conti, Dave Walsh, and Cindy Conti, and Jenn O’Conner. December 2001 through early March.

Artist’s reception, “Slate of the Art” and other works by Jan Krystallis, March 16 from 6-8 pm. Show ran through mid April.

Workshops and Classes

Introduction to Knitting Class Taught by Karin Maag-Tanchak, Class fee: $5 per class, $7.50 for adult and child pair. One time materials fee: $10. Mondays, January 14th and 28th 7:30pm – 8:30pm (every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month) Ran through June 2002.

Scrapbooking Workshop Saturday, April 20 from 10 am-12 noon. Ages 7 to adult. The first class is $10 and ongoing workshops are $5 each. One hour workshop for drummers (conga and related rhythms) and one hour Chekere workshop Sunday, April 21, 2pm - 4:30pm (reflects break between) Barry Duke has worked with traditional music and dance ensembles for over twenty years, performing in Europe, the Caribbean, and throughout the US and has a B.A. in Ethnomusicology & Cultural Studies. $25 dollars for both classes or $15 each. Poetry Workshop with Sally Rhoades April 27 from 12:30 until 3:30. How does voice play into poetry? What is scansion? To rhyme or not to rhyme? A beginning look at the voice of poetry. All levels welcome. A new series of writer's workshops offered by the Hudson Valley Writer's Guild. $15 non-members, $10 members of HVWG and The Arts Center of the Capital District. Kate Ng’s Origami Class Saturday 6/15 at 1 pm, $5, Suggested for ages 6 and up. Call 426-3570 to register.

Intro to Drawing class for adults. This class teaches techniques to draw realistically. Class begins July 8 and ends July 31 and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm -9pm. The cost is $80 for eight 2 hour classes. Class taught by Catherine Austin. Catherine is a graduate from the college of Saint Rose and currently teaches art at Mont Pleasant Middle School. Participants will need:18 x 24 drawing paper pad, 18 x 24 drawing newsprint pad, 3 to 4 charcoal pencils- peel off type (hard, medium & soft), white plastic eraser, kneaded eraser and container for supplies. Breaking My Art Presents A Summer Sun Fun Piñata Workshop July 20, 1-3pm, For all ages (children 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult or responsible person to help them with their piñata), Learn the history of the piñata. A.C. Everson’s piñata construction technique and tips.Decorate your own summer sun piñata. And finish the workshop breaking A.C.’s art. All for just 20$ per participant. Workshop size 10. Knitting classes — contact Karin Maag-Tanchak at kmtfiberworks@msn.com New class starting Saturday, September 14: 10 am Beginners, a six week course $ 60 plus materials $10. Starting September 14: 11 am, a four week class "Knitting in the Round", $40 plus materials between $15 and $20 depending on what you're planning to make. Learn how to knit a hat and a pair of mittens on circular and double pointed needles. Making socks also an option.

Stories in Performance an after school workshop for grades 3, 4 and 5 with Dee Ellen Lee, storyteller. Students will select a story or short play to perform in front of an audience. During each class, the students will rehearse, work on vocal techniques, facial expressions and body movement. Thursdays, from September 19th through November 21st from 4:30-5:30 pm. Performance on November 21st at 7 pm. $70 for the 10 sessions. Enrollment limited to 15. For more information or to enroll, call Dee at (518) 458-1782.

Sally Rhoades Poet and Dance/Theatre Improvisor is offering a ten-week Series of Workshops exploring the dimension of movement with words. The first five sessions will be offered at Miss Mary's Art Space Wednesdays in October from 7 P.M. to 10 P.M. The next five sessions-- location and time --TBA. Cost $300 for all ten sessions; Hudson Valley Writer's Guild members, $250. Student and starving artist discounts(negotiable based on need). Drop in fees $30/$25/student and starving artist-per arrangement. Actors and dancers welcome who want to play with words. All levels of experience invited. Spoken Word/Literary

Poetry Extravaganza! Saturday, April 13 at 8 pm. Local poets Mary Panza, jil hanifan (violin + words), Nancy Klepsch, Dan Wilcox, Victoria Moore & Karin Maag-Tanchak will read to celebrate National Poetry Month. d.v.n ' t. (aka doug van nort) is an experimental/electronic musician. He will be performing new noise_beat/glitch works on October 7th at 8pm. suggested donation of $3. for these he draws from various sounds of metal, as well as from recorded urban and rural soundscapes. the materials were then composed using laptop computer and 5.1 surround system.the pieces were created, and will be performed on a customized software/hardware interface, utilizing the max/msp software environment, graphical drawing tablet and midi controllers.

In addition, video artist Ann Marie Lanesy will be showing loops of recent video works. descriptions of works: "SunSations", is a single-channel video examining female identity through self inflicted harm for the purposes of external beauty. Anguish and eroticism create the psychosis of this sun-tanning specter. The ghostly ultra-violate rays of the sun tanning unit acts as a topographic lens to the expose the deeply penetrated layers of skin while wreaking mental and physical obsession as well.
"The Swimmer", a whirling video composition of a woman treading water who goes nowhere, over and over again. A tension teaser!
"Fornicating Under the Consensus of the King", a multi-channel video installation exploring childhood sexual trauma, a strewn memory.
Bio:ann marie lanesey is an electronic media artist working with video, performance, and mixed-media installation to explore associations of body, identity and space in relation to time structures and social orders. She lives and works in Troy, NY.
